Raise $450 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
This year, Christina, a student at Advent Lutheran Elementary and Middle School, decided to take a more active role in promoting breast cancer awareness. She organized a “dress down day” for students in order to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Students (kindergarten-8th grade) and staff were allowed to wear pink and white instead of their usual school uniforms on October 16 and contributed $1 for each item worn (shirts, pants, hats). As a result, students raised $450 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which is dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.
“Christina was only in fourth grade when her mother passed away during Thanksgiving vacation,” said Laura Bluhm, principal of Advent Lutheran Elementary and Middle School. “Our students, staff and parents have had a special interest in fighting breast cancer ever since Joann lost her battle to this terrible disease. We are proud of Christina for organizing this event and we are grateful to our students, staff and parents for all their support.”
