Advent’s First Annual Golf Outing: Made for the Shade
Foursome Joe Olivella, Robert Richards, David Tandy and Troy Wheat took top honors in the shotgun scramble with a score of 60. Felipe Bazua edged out Jody Allen to win the putting contest as George Arbelaez and James Graber captured the “closest to the pin” award at holes 8 and 17, respectively. Doug Campbell sent his ball sailing to win the longest dive contest while newly appointed Headmaster Paul Humphreys held his own against all the golfers who tried to “beat the headmaster” in another distance competition.
“They say golf is a religious experience. I must agree,” quipped The Reverend Dr. Andrew D. Hagen, Pastor of Advent Ministries. “Today, I heard praises being shouted from the tee box, grown men crying for mercy in the rough, muttered prayers in the sand traps, and Hallelujah’s on the greens. More men called on the name of the Lord today than at most churches on Sunday.”
