Music Ministry

The music ministry at Advent sets the mood by creating an atmosphere where God can speak to His children, ministering to the deepest needs of His people and teaching through words and music the holiness, greatness and goodness of our God.

A varied program gives singers and instrumentalists an opportunity to serve God through their talents. We invite you to join us in one or more of the music groups that are listed below. Join in fellowship and fun as we prepare for worship and special programs here at Advent.

Traditional Music Ministry

Chancel Choir
Rehearsals start Thursday following Labor Day and continue through June. We meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The choir plans music for the Sunday services with a variety of music from traditional to contemporary and spirituals. They sing at the 11:15 service on the first Sunday of the month and the 8:30 service the rest of the month. Special programs are planned for Easter, Christmas and the 4th of July. Reading music is not a prerequisite, carrying a tune is. If you can carry a tune and love to sing, please join us. You are welcome to audition at any time.

Hand Bells
A unique experience is available for those who would like to join the hand bell team. If you don't read music we can color code the notes you ring and teach you the skills needed to enjoy this wonderful art. We meet every Thursday evening at 6:30 for an hour (just before choir, in case you would also like to join the choir). Rehearsals start Thursday following Labor Day and continue through June. We prepare music for the services and also play at the Christmas Eve midnight candlelight service. Come join us.

Advent Youth Brass
If you play an instrument in school, come join the fun we have learning music together as we prepare music to be used in the worship services and at special times in the year. We meet at 9:45 on Sunday mornings in the music room for about an hour. A minimum of one year of instrument training is required prior to joining.

Contemporary Music Ministry

Advent Praise Band
Our praise band is a small group of instrumentalists and singers who lead the congregation in worship at the contemporary worship service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The group meets to rehearse every Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
