Accelerated Reader

It is our goal to encourage our children to read in order to obtain specific information, as well as for pleasure. Our library is equipped with a variety of books for all interests and comprehension levels.

Our school uses a program called Accelerated Reader to allow students to choose books by certain authors, written in certain styles, or related to certain topics that interest them. At the same time, the program challenges them to read at appropriate levels. Each book is assigned a grade level based on vocabulary and complexity of the plot. Our students' progress is monitored by computer based comprehension tests taken right in our library.

Middle School Accelerated Reader Policy:

You may read books one grade level below and higher.
If you do not earn any points for a particular quarter, you will lose 10 points off of your final literature grade for that quarter.
If you don't earn all of the required points per quarter, you will lose the difference of points required and points earned off of your final grade. For example, if you are in 8th grade and you earn 6 points during the first quarter, you will lose 2 points off of your final literature grade for the first quarter (i.e., 8 - 6).
For each additional group of required points, you will earn 1 extra credit point toward your final literature grade for that quarter. For example, an 8th grader would need 8 additional points to earn one extra credit point. You may earn a maximum of 5 extra credit points per quarter. Any unused points will roll over to the next quarter for extra credit use only.
The average score of all AR test grades per quarter will count as a literature test grade in the quarter that these tests were taken.
