Caring for Our Community

"Jesus said, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' " (Matthew 25:40).

Caring for our local and global community is an integral part of life at Advent Ministries.  Please join us in serving one or more of the following ministries:

Alzheimer's Community Careā„¢
The Alzheimer's Community Care program offers a variety of services and resources to patients and caregivers of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.  Advent provides, free of charge, meeting space on our campus so that the Alzheimer's Community Care program can provide a weekly, adults day care program to those in the Boca Raton area.  For more information about the Alzheimer's Community Care program at Advent, please contact Denise Douglas at 561-391-6955 or visit the Web site at

Boca Helping Hands, Boca Raton
Formed by local congregations concerned with the growing needs of hunger and other problems in the Boca Raton community, Boca Helping Hands addresses possible solutions to these concerns for the underprivileged in our own community.  Advent provides financial support to Boca Helping Hands in addition to donating non-perishable food collected during its summer and Thanksgiving food drives. To support this ministry, contact Donna Centerbar at

Disaster Relief Ministry
Anyone who has witnessed the aftermath of a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, flood or fire knows that much needed supplies can be hard to come by.  To help victims of these disasters, Advent has purchased a disaster relief trailer that it stocks with food, water, first aid and cleanup supplies, and emergency equipment such as chainsaws.  Advent members are trained by Lutheran Relief Services to be first and secondary responders to disasters in Florida and the Gulf Coast.

Family Promise Homeless Ministry unites 12-14 local congregations who provide temporary housing to homeless families.  Efforts are currently underway to establish a Family Promise network in Palm Beach County.  Advent is committed to supporting this ministry as a host congregation.

First Care Pregnancy Center, Boca Raton
Since 1983, First Care has provided support for women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy.  Advent Ministries supports First Care by providing monthly financial support and collecting and delivering baby supplies.  To support this ministry, contact Donna Centerbar at
dcenterbar@adventlutheranschool.org.

Florence Fuller Child Development Center
This non-profit center provides childcare for children from six weeks to thirteen years of age.  Advent provides toys at Christmas for children who attend programs at the Florence Fuller Child Development Center. To support this ministry, contact Donna Centerbar at
dcenterbar@adventlutheranschool.org

Haiti
Advent has a long history of mission work in Haiti.  As one of the founding churches of the Lazarus Project in Haiti, Advent has supported three orphanages over the past decade and has expanded the "Village of Hope" school for over 500 students.  Financially, Advent continues to be one of the major sponsors of students at Village of Hope and each year donates tennis shoes to these students so that they do not have to walk barefoot over treacherous terrain.  To support this ministry, contact Donna Centerbar at
