The Reverend Dr. Andrew D. Hagen
Pastor of Advent Ministries

Pastor Andy is responsible for the overall direction of all of our ministries at Advent. He works with the staff and leadership to see that all of our personnel, programs, and finances are working together toward our common mission of sharing the love of Christ with the world. As a member of the pastoral team he preaches, teaches and provides leadership within the congregation. His special areas of interest include our mission work in Haiti, our work with the Transforming Church Institute, and playing guitar in the Advent Praise Band.

Andy married Susan Dingle, Pastor Ron Dingle's daughter, at Advent in 1985! They spent the next 20 years in Chicago where Susan became a clinical psychologist, Andy served one church and started another, and they were blessed with two children, Adam and Leah. Andy loves to cook for family and friends, travel whenever he can, and take long bike rides down A1A.

Pastor Andy received his Master of Divinity degree in 1988 and his Doctor of Divinity in 2003 from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. He served Good Shepherd Church in Chicago for four years and then became the founder of Joyful Spirit Church in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Starting with only his family, over the next decade the church purchased an eight-acre site, built a building and developed a nationally known ministry. He has written one book, contributed to several others, and writes a monthly article for Boca Delray Life magazine.

The Rev. Dr. Richard Barbour
Pastor of Congregational Life

Pastor Rich has served four congregations in the last 28 years. He was a mission developer at Crown of Glory Lutheran Church in Branchville, New Jersey after graduating from seminary in 1978. He spent 19 years as pastor of Trinity Old Lutheran Church in Buffalo, New York and seven years as senior pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Rochester, New York.

Pastor Rich was born in Staten Island, New York, and grew up in Morganville, New Jersey. He received his undergraduate degree from Monmouth University in West Long Branch , NJ and taught a year of 9th grade English at Brick Township High School before attending Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio where he received his Master of Divinity. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from the University of Toronto in 1994. He has served on numerous church and community related boards and organizations over the years. His special passions are Christian education and leadership training and development.

Pastor Rich is married to Avis and they have four grown children: Sean, Kevin, Michael and Emily. Pastor Rich and Avis are avid ballroom dancers and enjoy traveling, entertaining, and walks on the beach. Pastor Rich also enjoys reading, exercising, golf and playing with his Yorkshire terrier, Sacha.
