Statement of Faith

Advent is a Christian congregation that shares the same basic beliefs as the majority of other Christian churches. Every week at worship we join together saying the words of the Apostles’ Creed, which is an ancient summary of the Christian faith:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN.

*this means the universal church of all believers.

Advent is a Lutheran congregation that emphasizes the unconditional love of God for his children as shown through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lutheran Christians believe that the Bible is the authority for faith and living, that God blesses us in a very special way through Holy Communion and Holy Baptism, and that we are to make our faith active in love by serving our community.
